US  Qualifications (most states not government regulated)

Alabama has approximately 1,400 practitioners. A Massage Therapist is Licensed with 650 hours of education and passed a written or Practical Exam.

Arkansas the number of licensed practitioners in this state is 2,703. The title is Massage Therapist or Licensed Massage Therapist with the 500 hours education passing both a practical and written exam.

Arizona the number licensed practitioners in this state is 8,732. The title of a Licensed Massage Therapist is granted when the 500 hours of education is completed and passing both a practical and written exam.

California  is legislative bill is on hold,  there is no Licensing or standards of practice as yet please call to find out if the legislative review is for the Massage Therapy bill.

Connecticut the number of practitioners in this state is 3,466.  The title of a Licensed Massage Therapist is granted when the 500 hours of education is completed and passing a written exam.

Delaware the number practitioners in this state is 1,039. The Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) requires 500 hours with a written exam and there is a Certified Massage Technician (CMT) that requires 300 hours and an exam.

Florida the number practitioners in this state is 28,555. The Massage Therapist License requires 500 hours education and a written exam.

Georgia the number of practitioners in this state is 3,957. License Massage Therapist required education 500 hours written or practical exam.

Hawaii has 6,838 practitioners. There is 2 levels the first is the Licensed Massage Therapist which requires 570 hours of education and a written exam or a permit for the Massage Apprentice.

Illinois has 10,772 credentialed practitioners and they are licensed with 500 hours of education and a written exam.

Indiana certifies its Massage Therapist  when the have achieved  500 hours of education

Iowa has 2,292 practitioners. Licensure for a Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education and a written exam.

Kentucky has 1,551 credentialed practitioners.  Massage Therapists are License with 600 hours of education and a written exam.

Louisiana has 2,188 practitioners. A Massage Therapist requires  500 hours of education and must pass written and oral exams to get their  License.

Maine has 2,401 practitioners. A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education and do not require an exam to get a License.

Maryland has 3,262 practitioners. For the (RMT) Registered Massage Therapist designation or (RMP) Registered Massage Practitioner requires 500 hours of education and a written exam. Certified Massage Therapist or Certified MT  500 hours plus 60 College Credits CMT  and a written exam.

Massachusetts’ Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education and both a written and a practical exam to get a License.

Minnesota has a Freedom of Access Law in Effect.

Mississippi designates a Registered Massage Therapist when one completes 700 hours education and passes a written exam.

Missouri has 3,814 practitioners. A massage therapist requires 500 hours of education and to pass a written exam to become a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Nebraska has 1,223 practitioners. A Licensed Massage Therapist requires 1,000 hours of education and must pass a written exam.

Nevada  has  3,003 practitioners. A Licensed Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam.

New Hampshire has 1,400 practitioners. A Massage Therapist requires 750 hours of education must pass a written and practical exam to be Licensed.

New Jersey has 761 practitioners. A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to be Certified.

New Mexico has 650 practitioners. A  Massage Therapist requires 750 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

New York has 14,630 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 1000 hours of education must pass a written and practical exam to get a License.

North Carolina has 7,585 practitioners. A Licensed Massage Therapist and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT) require 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

North Dakota has 617 practitioners. A Massage Therapist requires 750 hours of education must pass a written and practical exam to get a License.

Ohio has 9,495 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 750 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

Oregon has 5,622 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 750 hours of education must pass a written and practical exam to get a License.

Rode Island has 816 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a Licence.

South Carolina has 2,716 practitioners. A  Massage/Bodywork person requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

South Dakota has 556 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 100 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

Tennessee has 4,127 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

Texas has 25,000 practitioners. A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education plus 50 hours of internship must pass a written and practical exam to get a License.

Utah has 4,270 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist/Massage Apprentice requires 600 hours of education and 1000 hours as an apprentice must pass a written and practical exam to get a License.

Virginia has 4,707 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get become Certified.

Washington has 13,475 practitioners.  A Massage Practitioner requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

Washington D.C.  has 712 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education must pass a written exam to get a License.

West Virginia has 1,200 practitioners.  A Licensed Massage Therapist requires 500 hours of education to get a License.

Wisconsin has 2,766 practitioners.  A Massage Therapist requires 600 hours of education must pass a written exam to be Certified.
